The Department of Linguistics at the University of Hong Kong is pleased to announce its 1st Summer Institute for Linguistic Research. The institute will be held 7-18 July 2014, with a special theme: Linguistic diversity in Asia: Theories and Methods.

Week 1: Seminars: July 7-11, 2014
During the first week, students may choose to register in up to three of the following seminar series which will meet fives times, each day at the same time. For more information on the seminars click here.

Week 2: Language documentation workshop: Multilingualism. 14-18 July 2014
The second week offers an intensive workshop on language documentation. It will include documentation activities and processes, research ethics, workflows, software tools and possible applications. Social activities:A reception will kick off each week on Monday 7 and Monday 14 July from 6-7pm in the Main Building Room 201. Both Wednesdays we have an evening event - on the 9th, we have organized a hike to the peak, and on the 16th, we have organized a ferry trip to Tsim Sha Tsui where we can view the lightshow and have dinner. The institute will close with a reception at the Visitor's Center Gallery from 5:30-7:00pm.

The institute was a huge success - thank you to everyone for participating! In addition to the local Hong Kongers, we had people coming from Australia, China, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, the Philippines, the UK and the US to join us for this inaugural event. Hope to see you all again next year!
